Short answer: Celebrities (also called Celebrity or The Name Game) is the party game where teams guess the same set of names in three escalating rounds: describe freely, then act out, then use just one word. Grabbit is the app version: ready-made words, automatic timer and scoring, no slips of paper.
How to play Celebrities (the classic way)
Everyone writes a few famous names on slips of paper and drops them into a hat. In teams, you guess the same slips across three rounds, each harder than the last. Traditionally round two limits you to one word and round three is gestures only, though plenty of groups flip those rounds; Grabbit plays describe, act out, then one word. Because the names repeat, the game gets funnier every round.
The same game goes by many names: Fishbowl, Salad Bowl, The Hat Game, and in boxed form Time's Up! or Monikers.
